Unique opportunity to live in a historic boat - welcome to Lady Doris! She’s in a Beautiful location on the RIver Thames, near The Boaters Inn. A perfect way to spend the Summer in Kingston, very near London!

The pictures are a bit old (they are the ones I have to hand at the moment) - She's fairly similar to this, slightly different colours now! But I need to tidy/clean/spruce her up a bit. You'll see when you get here what I mean. I can sort this out, hopefully in advance of you coming, or as part of the deal to entice you in of course!

Woodburner, basic loo, 12V electrics charged from solar. Generally recommended to join a local gym for a better shower & toilet experience….

This is advert for someone who's interested in sampling boat life on the glorious River Thames, or maybe for a seasoned boater, who fancies a change of scene.

We're a stone’s throw from Kingston, Richmond Park & Hampton Court in a beautiful location, that is easily commutable into to London (30 mins from Kingston to Waterloo). We have a private parking space too, if you happen to have a car/vehicle!

She is incredibly pretty, and also rather famous, having appeared on Channel 4's Amazing Spaces in October 2015! (watch the video, to see how this happened with a great deal of support and help from volunteers from all over the world). Or find on 4OD series 5, episode 3.

There are two bedrooms, and you'd be staying in the "Bow Bedroom" or the “Bunkhouse” (which can be twin or a double) - see pics. I’m off to Uganda, so I won’t be there at all. So it’s all to yourself! I’m back in late October / November, so at that point we can chat about the future - if it’s working out, you can stay.

Rent is £395 a month, and the deposit is £100. The boat is available immediately, rent is paid up front, and a month’s notice is needed when you chose to leave (this works both ways). Price is negotiable for the right person...

Add me on Facebook - “marcus warry”, and send me a message there, to arrange a viewing. She’ll get snapped up quite quickly I suspect, so please make it snappy, and of course feel free to ask any questions, if I haven’t covered it here!

About me & Lady Doris
______________________________ ______________________________ __________________

You can find out more about my incredible journey to restore her, and getting her ready for her TV debut by searching for "Project Lady Doris" on F B**k. You can search for me too "Marcus Warry'. It's a great way of accessing more pictures, and also finding out more about me too, as I'll also occasionally be on the boat too (I'm not a mentalist I promise, and I hope you're not either?!).

I live in central London, and run a business that helps creative startups with Office Space, Mentoring & Accounting. I'm passionate and Debating as well as boating, and I'm sociable guy who enjoys the odd pint. I'm a relatively new "pirate", but I'll be sure to bore with the whole story of how I bought Lady Doris on Ebay up in Sheffield, and got her all the way to Kingston - what an adventure (Especially for a novice!).

Introduction to the boat facilities facilities, and boating life in general
______________________________ ______________________________ __________________

Lady Doris served in WW2 as an RAF Seaplane tender, and by opening her up to housemates/boat mates, you're helping me to keep this wonderful piece of history afloat.

She's pretty, but her facilities are still fairly basic, so it's best if you come with the right expectations. Lady Doris is totally off grid, so great for all you Eco warriors out there, but it does mean we have to be quite creative in the way we do certain things!

Electricity - We have a solar panel, charging up the leisure batteries. This works like a dream in the summer, but in winter, we have to try and conserve the electricity. Plenty of USB ports around the boat for charging phones & things... What else do you need electricity for?! There's a radio too that charges from a USB, so that's handy... If you REALLY REALLY need to run a normal household appliance, we can use an inverter to create 240v.. but it does kill the batteries, so please use sparingly (I'll explain all when you get here!).

WIFI & 3G - We have a wifi booster, and it is possible to pick up wifi from a computer that has the right software downloaded, but don’t rely on this. Outside, you can often pick up wifi on your phone, and the 3G signal seems to be fairly strong wherever you are on the boat!

Cooking - we have a double Gas hob, and all the cooking equipment you need to make delicious coffee or a slap up meal! As well as a fridge, and place to store your food, if you're planning to cook on board. There are lots of local shops nearby to buy supplies!

Heating - We have a woodburner in the bow bedroom. We have a diesel heater (webasto, but I need to get that connected, but not really relevant during the summer months!), that heats up radiators in the Bow Bedroom and the Bunkhouse. You will be as snug as a bug in a rug.

Shower - I'd recommend you join the local gym, which is less than 10 mins away. A great way to ensure you keep clean, and get super fit at the same time!

Loo facilities - If you're not a boater, then the first rule of boating, is to try and do your number 2s elsewhere! You may find it funny, how soon we'll start talking about bodily functions when I show you around the boat! But I promise, this is normal on the River! There is a "porta potty" for number 2s when you're not able to go ashore. The porta potty fills up very quickly, and does require occasional emptying (there's an Elsan point just a mile away, or it’s a very short drive).

The boat Layout from Stern (back!) to Bow (front!)
______________________________ ______________________________ __________________

Entering the back, you go into the Bunkhouse (stern cabin). The Bunkhouse is a twin room.

The Galley (boat lingo for kitchen!), is next to the Bunkhouse. So you can get out of bed, and stick on the perfect brew within seconds! We have al fridge, and space to store food, if you're planning on making your own.

Up the steps from the Galley is the Wheelhouse, with 360 degree views of the whole river. This is where the boat is sailed from, but is also a sociable space for drinking, chatting, reading (I have a small collection of River related books that you're welcome to read!).. or you just might want to just admire the views & watch the world go by...

Down the steps towards the bow, is the “Bow Bedroom”. Your bedroom basically.

The Bow Deck is lovely, when the weather is nice! And you're welcome to sit out on the deck, eat on the deck, have drinks on the deck... and enjoy the amazing views. There's a duck island you can see from the deck too, so get out your little wildlife book, and see what you can spot - I regularly see Canadian Geese, Swans, Egyptian Geese and even Herons!

The Neighbourhood & surrounding area
______________________________ ______________________________ __________________

There is lovely local community around Lady Doris, and they have become great friends. It's essential to me, that I find someone to move onto Lady Doris who can blend into this, and not cause them any concerns whatsoever. Please do not play loud music, and just follow a "do as you would be done by" mentality, and hopefully you'll gently ease into the community too.

We're a stone’s throw from Richmond Park, a short walk along the river to Historic Kingston Upon Thames, which has loads of great shopping & also many riverside bars and restaurants... oh and Hampton Court Palace is very near too, and that's well worth a visit!

There is a huge Sainsburies and many other useful local amenities within walking distance, and last but not least, there is my favourite pub in the entire world about 30 metres from the boat - aptly called, The Boaters Inn!

Transport links and getting around
______________________________ ______________________________ __________________

Well you're 10/15 minute walk form Kingston Train Station, which goes direct to Clapham Junction (15 mins) & Waterloo (about 30 mins), so venturing into London is easy peasy..

There's a free parking space next to the boat. So if you have a car, it's obviously super easy.

There are heaps of buses that leave about a 2/3 minute walk away. Taking you into London, or heaps of other places. Download CityMapper on your phone, and away you go! Put in KT2 5BB, which is the nearest postcode for Lady Doris.

You can tootle about on the river on our small rowing boat too if you like.. it's quite fun to have a picnic on the water for example! Or simply take it upstream about 30 metres to the best pub on the river - The Boaters Inn.
